Investor concerns about the Resource Super Profits Tax have been partly neutralised following its replacement with the much more limited Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT), a decision that will cost the federal government $7.5 billion in lost revenue over the first two years. As part of the new tax arrangement the existing Petroleum Resource Rent Tax, which currently applies only to offshore projects, will be extended to cover all oil, gas and coal seam methane projects.
