Your say: Should Kevin Rudd be paid $1 million?

Calls for Kevin Rudd's pay to be trebled to $1 million have sparked outrage from low paid Australians who are grappling with frozen pay cheques.

Yesterday, politicians were awarded a 3 percent pay rise – which will boost Rudd's salary to $340,000 a year.

But National Senate leader Barnaby Joyce said that as the highest office holder, the Prime Minister's salary should be in line with the earnings of city fat cats.

The suggestion has been slammed by trade unions, who point out that low-paid workers have had their pay frozen at $543 a week.

Meanwhile, many Australians have foregone pay rises and bonuses to help their companies through the tougher economic times.

The 3 percent pay rise is the first pay rise politicians have been granted since 2007, however independent senator Nick Xenophon has criticized the Remuneration Tribunal's move and the Australian Greens will try to block the pay rise in parliament.

What do you think? Should politicians get pay rises?

Should Kevin Rudd be paid as much as corporate bosses?

How much should pollies get paid? What is fair?

Since Rudd taking over our country nothing has occurred except the increase of everything we have to pay for, the increase in national debt (for the next generation to deal with). Why did our wonderfull nation vote this guy in. What does he major in?? Poetry!!! I think he deserves a pay cut not a pay rise.
Yes, i think Kevin Rudd should be paid 1 million , as it's job is more important then any corporate boss jobs.

Australia is one of the most over governed, over taxed, over policed countries in the world. We have a three tier government system when we should be united and have only one. Politicians at every level are taxing us more and giving us less to justify their fatcat salaries. I am not an anarcist but what about a fair go. Australia used be famous for it but now instead of being ruled by the church we are ruled by a bunch of politicians too interested in themselves to do Australia any good. My vote is NO for a million dollars to the travelling and NO to a payrise for politicians in general. What about a referendum asking the people of Australia if any more of our assets should be sold off - or are we, infact, living under the rule of a dictatorship???
Personally, I think that the PM should be paid a substatial amount, but I also believe that he should have to meet certain KPIs to be eligible for those rewards - like in any other commercial organisation. Let's face it, if you want the smartest person for the job, you have to pay them. Also, if they have to achieve something for reward, then it's more likely they'll work to make it work. The only thing I'm not sure about, is who sets those KPIs and does the Govenor General or Parliament then approve his eligability for the $$$. It's a tough one.
The prime minister DOES get paid over a $mil annually, and what’s more he will continue to be paid even after, we, the voters, put his sorry backside back in the gutter where it belongs. ALL prime ministers get this style of golden handshake, and Jumpin-Jack Johnny Howard is a classic example. If you knew how much the tax payers dole out for this parasitic little worm, you’d be horrified.
Mr Rudd would be getting his million bucks now when ALL the fringe benefits are included - eg car and driver, travel, accomodation, electricity bill, and everything that we pay for the priviledge of living in this great country. Even his food bill would be minimal - the odd icecream for his kid. Solution -Pay him a $million and then he, (the PM) pays for everything else out of his pay cheque, like we do. That also includes Superannuation deals.
Pay him $1 000 000 per year if he stops the boat people comming into OZ.
Taking into acccount the other freebies the PM gets, such as living at the Lodge - free, at Kirribilli House - free ... and all the many benefits that go with that ... his own personal jet crewed by the RAAF (of course there needs to be reason for his use of such things) and all the many other benefits , I think he is well paid. If a would-be PM is doing it for the money eg $1 million paypacket and as some have suggested we need to pay more to attract the best people, that would-be PM is definately the wrong person for the job. We need people who will put this country before themselves.
If i have that kind of money i can semi retired.
